DANCE PERFORMING GROUPS

“Dancing allows me to explore myself in so many ways, to
learn about my limitations and strengths, my ability to cope with
adversity and to go farther than I thought I could. You find out what
you’re made of.” ~ Andrew Asnes

What is
IDT
AXiS DANCE?

AXiS is comprised of IDT student dancers, along with their
parents, who are committed to a heightened level of training
and performing. Students benefit from the
camaraderie of being part of a team and are mentored by
teachers and choreographers. Competition is not the goal of
the program although we do perform at competitions in
addition to performance concert settings. At
these competitions, dancers are not competing against other
dancers, but training through performance to improve their
own personal technique and performance quality (or as a
group). Feedback from judges is reviewed together with
their teachers to improve each time a piece is performed.
Students have the opportunity to observe students, dancers
and styles from all over at both competitions and while in
class alongside them at convention weekends, taught by guest
and master teachers from all over the country and abroad.
Through these experiences, students gain education and
inspiration! Not only are our children receiving excellent
dance education, but are also building lifelong memories
that help to shape whom they will grow to be as individuals.
Many students are accepted into college dance programs and
companies upon completing their senior year at IDT, but
whether or not they choose to dance in college or
professionally, the lessons learned through the discipline
and art of dance will overflow into all facets of their
life. Grace, beauty and strength- usually with a profound
attention to detail are just some of the gifts that a
healthy dance training environment can bring. If you
have any questions about our performing programs, please
feel free to contact us.
